If You Want to Feel Like Stepping Into Another World, Now's Your Chance
Experiencing Thai Cuisine at LumLum is not going to be the same as any other Thai restaurant. It can physically transport you and allow you to feel more tuned in to your surroundings that much more. It could very well be freezing cold outdoors, but when you step in, you might start to truly believe that you are in a warm and tropical atmosphere. The servers are dressed the part with decorative skirts and flowers which gave off the illusion that you weren't in Midtown NYC, but that you could have been in Thailand all while the creative cocktails and presentable food draws you in simultaneously.
When I visited the restaurant with my partner, we had the time of our lives. It was chilly out with relentless droplets of rain that would storm the sidewalks outside, but as we stood behind the reception desk waiting for our reservation to settle in, the We each ordered one drink cocktail each and a total of three entrees: one for each of us and the other to share.
The Nam Khiao looked exactly as you would expect - especially as seeing that it came with pop rocks, the childhood candy we all seemed to love at one point of our lives, the miniature rocks that crackle in your mouth like a private firework session. The drink itself tasted very much like a blue raspberry jolly rancher: tart and refreshing. I picked off the Mai Thai from their drinks menu which contained lychee, lime and rum that was the main liquor. It gave off strong notes of floral incense with a lightly sweet vanilla undertone for those of you who don't want something sickly sweet, but just something with enough texture to get by.
I'd say the entrees at LumLum were definitely the star of the show. I have always been the "crab fried rice" type of gal, but the Khao Pad Poo at LumLum wasn't just "crab fried rice" on a plate. The rice was creamy, the crab was so soft that it literally melted in my mouth, and the eggs with scallion mixture was as if it was a decorative piece, fully there just to mix all the colors together in one place. The whole branzino was warm and citrusy with notes of lime and cilantro, you really couldn't help but just drink the soup entirely. It did come with bones of course, so be careful of choking! My partner devoured the Crying Tiger since the oozing egg yolk transformed the steak pieces making it so caramelized in meaty eggy taste; combining the two extreme different tastes in one unity.
Just go to LumLum! You can't regret it and it will make you coming back for more.
